When the doorbell rang at the Chandler home, Emily peered through the peephole and smiled. She opened the door.
"Tony!" she grinned at the man standing on the doorstep.
"Hi Mom," Tony smiled, his hazel eyes twinkling.
"Well come in, come in! What are you doing here? Hannah told us you've been busy with a big case for the past week or so," Emily said.
"We have been," Tony chuckled, stepping into the familiar home. "We actually closed the case last night, and I flew out this morning."
"Well, I’m so glad to see you! But what are you doing all the way here? Not that you're not welcome, honey, but—"
"Actually, I was hoping I could talk with you and Mr. Chandler together for a bit, if he's here," Tony said. Emily looked at him critically for a moment and saw the nerves in his eyes. Her heart fluttered for a second, and she tried not to grin as she went to the sliding glass door that led to the backyard and called for Mark.
Mark Chandler made his way inside and grinned when he saw the younger man.
"Tony! Good to see you," he said, reaching out to shake his hand. Tony gripped his hand and smiled.
"Honey, Tony has something he'd like to speak with us about," Emily said.
"All right," Mark replied. "Let's all sit down then, huh?"
They all sat down in the living room and Tony drew in a deep breath.
"What's going on, Tony?" Emily asked softly. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine—um—I'm a bit nervous, and I didn't think I would be just with you," Tony said. Emily exchanged a look with her husband.
"Mark, Emily, you know I love Hannah with all of my heart, right?" he spoke quietly.
"Of course we do," Mark said. "We've never questioned that."
Tony's cheeks flushed, but he smiled. "I—I came here to ask you both for Hannah's hand in marriage. I'd like to propose to her, and I'd very much be honored to have your blessing before I ask her."
Emily's eyes filled with tears and Mark grinned. They exchanged another look.
"Tony, we'd be honored to have you as an official part of this family," Mark said. "I'm fairly sure I can speak for Emily as well when I say we absolutely give you our blessing to marry our daughter,"
Tony stood and shook his hand and Emily stood to hug him tightly.
"Oh Tony," she said softly. "She's going to be thrilled!"
"I hope so," he said with a smile. "If she says yes,"
"She will," Mark said. "I hope you'll call us when she does,"
"I can fly you in, if you want," Tony said. "I had a dinner planned, but I can change it so you can both be there too."
Emily laid a hand on his arm. "No," she said. "This needs to be all you. You both just call us,"
"Okay," he smiled. "Thank you both. So much."
He shook Mark's hand again and hugged Emily, then left the Chandler home. As he got on the private jet Gibbs had sent him on, he fingered the little velvet box in his jacket pocket. He smiled and pulled out his cell, calling a favorite restaurant to reserve the party space it had. He then quickly sent a text message to Hannah, Gibbs, Abby, Ziva, Ducky, and McGee.
Dinner tomorrow night at Vidalia-7 pm. Dress up nice, bring dates if you want. See you there.
The next evening, when he picked Hannah up for dinner with their friends, he tried not to let her see his hands shake as he tucked her arm though his and helped into the car.
He kept stealing glances at her as he drove to Vidalia. She was beautiful as always, her dark hair spilling in waves over her shoulders, and two small rhinestone clips sweeping the sides from her face. Her dress was a deep blue that seemed to make her gray eyes stand out. He thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.
Hannah noticed his furtive glances, but chose not to call him on it. There was an air of nerves in the car and she reached over to gently pat his thigh. Tony jumped slightly at the touch.
"You okay there, hon?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Yeah, sure, I'm fine," Tony replied, looking over at her with a smile.
"Okay," she nodded.
The rode in silence the rest of the way, until they pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. Tony left the keys to his car with the valet and slid his arm around Hannah's waist. She smiled up at him as they headed inside.
The couple was led to the private party room and found Gibbs, Abby, Ziva, Ducky, McGee, and his girlfriend Vanessa all dressed up and at the table chatting amiably.
"Hi everyone," Hannah said. The group all looked up, smiling and Abby waved.
"Hey guys, glad you could make it," Tony grinned.
He and Hannah sat down and the waiters brought glasses of champagne and wine to everyone. They each ordered a few minutes later, and Tony glanced at Gibbs, who dipped his head slightly at him. Tony drew in a deep breath and stood up, tapping on his glass with his knife. Everyone turned to look at him, Hannah especially. He winked at her.
"I'd like to say a few words before our food arrives. I'm so glad that you all could meet us for dinner this evening, and I thank you for your friendship. I hope you enjoy the place. And I hope also that you'll indulge me for a moment to do something," Tony spoke, reaching into his pocket. Abby gripped Gibbs' hand under the table, trying not to squeal as Ziva exchanged smiles with Ducky and McGee.
"Hannah," Tony said softly. "I know I don't say it enough, but I hope I show you enough how much I love you. You have been and continue to be my heart and my soul for as long as I can remember."
He reached out to touch her cheek and she smiled.
"You have been the one constant thing in my life and I don't know if I could ever say all that you mean to me, but I would like to start trying to give forever to you," he said, dropping to one knee in front of her and opening the little velvet box in his hand. Hannah gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as she saw the diamond ring inside. "Hannah Rose Chandler, will—will you marry me?
"Yes," she whispered, nodding. "Oh yes, I will,"
With her eyes filled with tears, she cupped his face in her hands and kissed him. He laughed and slid the ring onto her finger. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him again.
Their friends clapped and cheered and the couple turned to beam at them. Gibbs, Ducky, and McGee all shook Tony's hand and hugged Hannah, with Gibbs kissing her cheek gently. Ziva, Abby, and Vanessa hugged them both and the girls squealed over the ring.
Hannah turned to Tony and he smiled tenderly at her.
"I love you," she said softly.
"I love you too, Han," he whispered, reaching out to run his thumb over her ringed finger. "I'm glad you said yes,"
"I wouldn't have said no," she laughed. "Not to you."
He smiled. "Now we'll have to call your parents and tell them. I'm sure they're waiting."
"Absolutely," she said. Then she paused for a moment. "Hey—wait a minute—waiting? Tony, did you—"
"I did," he said. "I flew there yesterday and asked their permission to ask you to marry me,"
Her eyes filled again. "You—asked them? Oh Tony,"
"I wouldn't have done it any other way. They only made me promise to call them when you said yes."
She let out a laugh. He grinned. Their food arrived then and the dinner was a celebration with their friends. The night ended with hugs and handshakes and congratulations.
When the valet pulled Tony's car up, he tipped the guy and held the door for Hannah. He slid into the driver's seat and smiled over at her. She reached out and laced her fingers with his. The cool metal of the ring hit his skin and he chuckled.
"What?" she asked.
"I—we're engaged, Han," he said.
"I know! We're getting married," she laughed. "Everyone's going to say it's about time!"
He lifted their joined hands and kissed her knuckles. "Let's go take you home and let's tell your mom and dad,"
"You know, this will be one of the last times you can take me to my home and you go to yours," Hannah said.
"True," he replied. "We'll have to start looking for a place together,"
"Tomorrow?" Hannah's voice was hopeful.
They drove back to Hannah's apartment and Hannah threw her purse and wrap on a chair, kicked off her shoes, and raced for the phone. Tony couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. She quickly dialed the number of her parents and put the phone on speaker. They sat on the couch and held hands again.
"Hi honey," Emily's voice answered.
"Hi Mom," Hannah said. "Hey, can you get Dad and Alli and put them on too? I—we—have some news,"
She heard her mother call for Mark and Allison and they waited.
"We're on speaker now," Emily said.
"Hi honey," Mark said.
"Hi Han!" Allison's voice piped up.
"Hey, I'm here too," Tony said.
Emily and Mark laughed. "So—news?"
"Mom, Dad, Alli—um—Tony and I are engaged!" Hannah exclaimed.
"Oh Hannah!" Emily cried. "Oh!"
"I proposed at dinner this evening, and your daughter accepted with a smile," Tony said.
"Well finally!" Mark said. "Congratulations!"
"Yeah! Congratulations, sis!" Allison said. "And soon-to-be brother!"
They all chatted for a few minutes more, and soon hung up. Tony cupped her face in his hands and pulled her close for a kiss.
"I'd better go," he said quietly. "See you tomorrow?"
Hannah paused for a moment, then grabbed his hand as he stood up.
"No," she said quietly. "Don't go home tonight, Tony. Please?"
His head tilted and his hazel eyes blinked.
"I want us to spend our first night as engaged together," she said softly. "Stay with me tonight?"
He offered a soft smile. "Okay," he said.
She pulled on his hand and smiled up at him. "I love you, Tony, and I can't wait to be your wife,"
"I love you too, Han," he whispered. "And I can't wait to be your husband,"
With another kiss, they turned off the lights and headed off to bed, starting up their forever.
